Joining the lab

The lab provides training opportunities at various career stages. Even if we don’t have a formal opening, please reach out if you’re interested in our work. We can often work out individual solutions to join our group at Yale University. Please reach out to Randolph if you’re interested in one of these positions. We generally encourage prospective applicants to also reach out to current lab members to learn more about our work and inquire about Randolph’s mentoring style, the lab atmosphere, current research directions and future opportunities.

For Ph.D. students:

Prospective Ph.D. students can apply either through the Psychology program (https://psychology.yale.edu/graduate/admissions) or the interdisciplinary neuroscience program (https://medicine.yale.edu/inp/academics/apply/). There is also a dedicated program for prospective M.D./Ph.D. students at Yale (https://medicine.yale.edu/mdphd/). The deadline for the Psychology and Neuroscience programs is generally December 1st, but prospective applicants are encouraged to reach out beforehand to discuss potential research directions.

For Postdocs:

Formal openings will be posted on this website, as well as on social media, job search lists such as NeuroJobs and typically on mailing lists, such as the eeglab, fieldtrip or SPM mailing lists.

Even if we don’t have a formal opening, we recommend reaching out to learn more about your research interests and develop an individual solution. At the postdoc level, there are several fellowship opportunities through the WuTsai Institute, various US-based agencies (https://research.jhu.edu/rdt/funding-opportunities/postdoctoral/) or for German/European applicants through several fundings schemes, such as the Marie Curie program, DFG, DAAD, Leopoldina or Humboldt fellowships. Note that some accept applications on a rolling basis, while others have certain deadlines. Furthermore, typical decision timelines are ~6—8 months, which means that prospective applicants are advised to reach out 9-12 months prior to the desired starting date if you are considering a fellowship application. In any case, we will try to accommodate individual research plans and career trajectories. Please send a CV and short research statement if you’re interested in joining us as postdoc.

For RA, Postbacc or Postgrad positions:

If you’re interested in a postgraduate position (generally after a B.Sc. or B.Sc.hons.), please reach out. We can typically accommodate 1-2 positions in any given year. Please email us a CV and a statement of your research skills and interests and we are happy to discuss options and opportunities in the lab. Generally, it is best to apply 4-6 months prior to the desired starting date.

For International M.D. students:

If you’re interested in conducting research for an international M.D. thesis (such as the German Dr. med. degree), please reach out. We are happy to host students for their research at Yale, but this typically requires an application at least 6-12 months prior to the desired starting date.
